Sealed brass burner will not light
Viking runs heavy brass sealed burners at high BTU. The burner cap seating matters more here than on lighter tops — a cap sitting proud by a millimetre after cleaning will stop ignition or give a lopsided flame, and it is the first thing we check.
High-BTU burner running weak
A Viking power burner that no longer roars is usually gas supply, a partially blocked orifice, or a regulator issue rather than a failed part. On a professional-style range top the delivered pressure has to be right or the whole top underperforms.
VariSimmer setting scorching
Viking's low-end simmer relies on a precise valve. When it drifts, the lowest setting stops being low — sauces catch on a number that used to be safe. That is a valve symptom, not a burner symptom.
Clicking that will not stop
Moisture in the spark switch or a failed spark module. On sealed brass burners the liquid gets under the cap and stays there, so the clicking often continues long after the spill looks cleaned up.
Griddle or grill section cold
Viking tops are frequently specified with a griddle or char-grill module. Those run their own burner and thermostat, so a cold griddle with healthy surrounding burners points at that module rather than the cooktop as a whole.
Electric element or control fault
On Viking electric tops: a burned element, a failed infinite switch, or a control board. The element and the switch imitate each other closely, which is why both get measured before either is replaced.
