What Actually Goes Wrong on a Thermador Oven
Every brand fails in its own way. These are the six we see on Thermador in DFW homes, and what each one really means before anyone quotes you a part.
🔥 Won't Heat, or Takes Forever
On gas Pro Grand and Pro Harmony ranges the glow-bar igniter weakens with age. It still lights up orange, so it looks fine, but it no longer draws enough current to open the gas safety valve. If your oven now needs 20 minutes to reach 350°F, this is almost always why.
🌡️ Baking Off Temperature
Cakes sinking, edges burning, roasts underdone. The RTD temperature sensor drifts as it ages and starts reporting a false reading to the control. We measure its actual resistance cold rather than guessing, then replace or recalibrate.
🔵 Blue Knob Lights Dead
The illuminated blue knob ring is a Thermador signature, and when a segment goes dark the range looks broken even though it cooks fine. Usually the LED module or its harness connection, not the control board. Worth knowing before someone sells you a board.
🚪 Door Sagging or Not Sealing
Professional doors are heavy, and after years of use the hinges lose tension. The door sits slightly open at the top, heat escapes, and the oven never holds temperature. Hinges are replaceable — the door and gasket usually are not the problem.
🔲 Error Code on the Display
Common on Professional and Masterpiece wall ovens, often the relay board rather than the main control. Tell us the exact code when you call and we will bring the likely part with us instead of ordering it after the visit.
💨 Steam Oven Not Filling
On Masterpiece steam and combination ovens: reservoir not drawing, error after filling, or weak steam. Scale buildup from hard North Texas water is the usual cause, and descaling is often the entire repair.

Thermador Oven Repair FAQ
On gas models this is the classic sign of a weakening glow-bar igniter. It still glows orange, which is why people assume it is fine, but it no longer pulls enough current to open the gas safety valve quickly. A Pro Harmony that used to hit 350°F in about 10 minutes and now takes 20 is telling you the igniter is near the end. Left alone it eventually stops lighting at all, usually mid-recipe.
Write the code down and read it to us when you call. On Professional and Masterpiece wall ovens the same symptom can come from the relay board or the main control, and the code tells us which. That one detail is often the difference between a repair finished on the first visit and a second trip to fit a part we did not know to bring.
Not serious, and usually not expensive. The illuminated knob ring runs off its own LED module and harness, so a dark segment rarely means the control board has failed. It is worth fixing, though, because on a Thermador range the lit knobs are part of how the kitchen reads, and a dark patch makes an otherwise perfect range look neglected.
